These are my favorite goth girls who only appeared in just one episode.

Electra in Hercules and the Complex Electra (Hercules the Animated Series) Hercules fell in love with this nonconformist and changed his looks into that of a beat nick because Electra doesn't like heroes and even wrote a poem denouncing them. She hangs out in an ancient-Greek styled goth club, and has the power to summon Furies (bird-like monsters) whenever she's angry. Actually, in the real myth of Electra, she's Agamemnon's daughter who plotted revenge against her traitor mother and stepfather for murdering her father after the Trojan War. That's darkness within.

Malaria in Grim in Love (The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy). The episode is alongside "Crushed!", the episode where Mandy also fell in love. Of course, Malaria is the one the Grim Reaper fell in love with (better get your hopes up, fellow admirers of Death). She’s somewhat fashioned from Morticia Addams, and the first thing she said to Grim is “You just sucked the life out of me.” Their love montage is pretty goth, in the cemetery and in a zombie club. But in the end, Malaria’s gothness shattered when she found out that Grim is the real deal. She then appears in the show's opening sequence.

Tak from Invader Zim. That show is one of my very top favorite cartoons of all time. Another delight is that it's created by Jhonen Vasquez, the author of the dark comics Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and its many spin-offs. Too bad the show was canceled before Tak became the main antagonist in future episodes (doom be hailed upon Nick!). Yap, Tak only appeared once in the episode Tak: The Hideous New Girl. She became a fan favorite right away because she became Zim's Valentine and also a very vengeful rival because Zim unwittingly destroyed her chances to be an Elite Irken Invader. Together with her cat-disguised SIR unit, Mimi, Tak almost destroyed Earth using meat, but Zim and Dib worked together to stop her. But she'll be back. I only wish.....

Laetitia Bowers in New Girl in Town (As Told by Ginger). Though the show is now rarely seen on Nickelodeon, I still remember that episode. The new girl is a goth named Laetitia. She always brings a skull around, even at the cafeteria, but she admitted that it’s plastic. Her father is a mortician and drives his daughter around in a hearse. The mean girls at school rumored that he accidentally embalmed his wife. In the episode, Ginger and her friends hosts a party in Laetitia’s old Victorian house. Ginger’s brother is a bit goth, too, or maybe just weird. In the episode, he so wanted to crash their funeral house party and to get stuffs from the morgue.

Morose in I'll Be Home For Misery (Ruby Gloom). Misery hosted a family reunion. All who attended are female, look like her, names start with M, and each has their own disaster to suffer. Morose is the one closest to the culture of "goth". She's very fashionable; her dress pattern is called "the abyss, on a dark night, in the middle of nowhere." She has a voodoo doll that she walks around on a leash. She's depressed most of the time, shouting "Why! Why! Why!" and disliking playful children. But she rocks out loud, playing the keyboards and singing in a band until the whole house literally falls down.

Molly in Wishing Well (The Fairly Odd Parents). The episode features Timmy and other kids, Molly and Dwight in Wishing Well, a boot camp for godchildren with Over Wishing Disorder. Timmy over wished for anything he likes while the wimpy Dwight over-wished for anything he needs. As for Molly, she's an ill-tempered goth with a rude and tough attitude. Maybe she over-wished her godmother, Swizzle, for selfish whims and demands. Like her godmother, Molly doesn't like to be touched and would shout..

The Lizz in The Rizzle (The Replacements). Riley and her friends met Lisa, the coolest and baddest it-girl in high school. According to Riley, among the many reasons were that Lisa plays badminton, has a car and "...'she's so cool' is also reason 17. That's how cool she is." Riley became friends with her when Lisa told Sierra, the mean girl, to "cheese off". But Riley had to dump her friends so she can hang out with her. And so she became the "Rizzle." The Lizz really became her bad influence; she even forced Riley to go to a Night Weasels concert in Gloomy Valley.

Kristin in The Ballad of Scary Mary (Sym-Bionic Titan). Octus and Kimmy drag Ilana and Lance with them to an annual school event in the woods known as a Scary Mary party. It is apparently to honor a girl who supposedly died in those woods. Lance is the only one not feeling the party vibe so he chooses to just hangout beside the van until a goth girl shows up and they begin talking. She appears to have a crush on Lance, jokingly telling him they're "soulmates." But Lance rushed off without a word to her to see Octus and Ilana. She's not surprised because every time she says "Hi" to him, he totally blows her off. However, at the end of the same episode, Lance walks past her in the school hallway, surprising her as he simply tells her, "Hey".

Cassandra in Rednecks and Broomsticks (The Simpsons). I love this episode because it's about Lisa, witchcraft and based on the movie "The Craft". Cassandra is a part of a Wiccan group who invited Lisa to join them. The other unnamed members were a pink haired girl with a snake tattoo on her arm, and the other girl is a chubby one. Lisa was skeptical at first but their spells came true. I love the clever jokes about witchcraft especially when Bart rejoiced when he thought Lisa is on the dark side. But ever-religious Flanders (who also thinks Harry Potter is evil) got the coven arrested. In the court trial, Cassandra was addressed as Gwendolyn Nightshadow. But she admitted, "....is not even my real name. It's Stacey...Stacey Deathsatan."

Annasthesia in License to Slumber (The X's). The show is about a seemingly average family that consists of extreme secret agents. Tuesday is the teenage daughter who only knows what is normal, despite her punk-rock look. In the episode, Mrs. X, trying to be a normal mom, arranges a stupid slumber party for her daughter, while battling Glowface. Tuesday's friends came over, and one of them, as a typical punk girl would also have, is a goth girl named Annasthesia. When she first entered the X's home, she "already despises them all."

The Coven's Eleven

What do all these girls have in common? Well, they're total goths. They wear blacks and violets (except for Gwen). And they're all the main characters of their cult-hit shows. We're starting with number one......

Samantha "Sam" Manson from Danny Phantom. She's the leading female, being Danny Phantom's goth best friend and eventual love interest. She has an unholding interest in the subliminal and netherworldly, but combines this with an outspoken attitude on vegetarianism, animal rights and environmentalism. Her personality is seemingly less dreary than the stereotypical "goth" persona usually shown. Based on how she conducts herself, it would be fairer to say that she labels herself a goth more as an outlet for her independence and individuality. Sam is often the most pragmatic of the group, but she can be bossy at times and very determined to stand up for what she believes in. But she's also very caring and jolly towards her friends, Danny and Tucker. She always gets them out of trouble, and if she's in trouble, she can do it by herself anyway. It was hinted that she had a psychic connection to Danny. Her parents are actually super wealthy but she kept this a secret so she won't have "fake friends". Besides, she always clash with her parents and their colorful personality. To be honest, she's the very character who introduced me to the culture of goth.

Gwen from Total Drama Island. This show is just freakin' awesome. Though she hated it, she auditioned for the show due to a dare of her brother. And so Gwen became a member of the Screaming Gophers and one of their strongest competitors. Actually, she made it to the final two. In some endings, she won the the final challenge. She also became the team captain of the Screaming Gaffers. Because of her lonely goth attitude towards other people, she was dubbed the "weird goth girl" and other nicknames like "death mask" by the mean girls especially Heather. But still, Gwen is well liked by the other contestants. They think that she is pessimistic, which she isn't, however, she steadfastly refuses to be cheerful. Truly, Gwen is not a bitter person, but rather guarded and cautious about whom she lets into her life. Her love interest is the casual yet wimpy Trent, the music guy. Their relationship is very much the favorite.

Cassandra from Hercules: The Animated Series. First off, the real mythological Cassandra is a Trojan princess. Apollo loved her so much that he gave her the gift of prophecy. But she rejected him so he gave her a curse that no one will ever believe her. This was kept in the cartoon adaptation. But to add to her goth personality, Cassandra always predicts the worst things to happen. She usually stays in a trance with spinning eyes and chants her prophecy. Since no one wants to believe her, she became anti-social and became friends with the dorks, Hercules and Icarus. A running gag is that when Cassandra makes sarcastic comments, Hercules and Icarus listen, but when she has visions, they rarely believe her. Icarus (like BeastBoy and Irwin) loves the goth girl who doesn't answer to his affections. But Cassandra tolerates this so she can still keeps her friends. Though she hanged out in a goth club, it seemed none of the goths are close to her.

Onyx Von Trollenburg from Trollz. You remember those cute little Troll dolls with crazy hairdos? Well, they had a show with a modernized yet magical setting. It's about five teenage troll girls with enchanted gems on their belly buttons. With their magic, they battle forces of evil while dealing with their teenage life. Though the plot is very typical but if you watch the episodes, they're pretty awesome and unique. What's more awesome is that the group has a goth girl. Onyx owns a dark violet gem (like her namesake), shaped like a crescent moon. Her Ancient is Spinell, old Zirconia's husband. Being a goth, she's pretty tough, especially towards cheerleaders and guys standing on her way, always say the wittiest mock. She's kinda anti-social and only keeps her four friends. She's really bad at driving. But she loves poetry and excels in that class. Her love interest is even a poetic rocker named Flint.

Yumi Yoshimura from Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi. It's about the J-Pop duo of PUFFY but it's American made. The character designs are really cute and the stories are hilarious. There's a parody of Yu-Gi-Oh being Stu-Pi-Doh. The intro song even rocks. Yumi is the lead guitarist and, contrast to sweet and peppy drummer Ami, she's sarcastic, cynical and punk. Her style is grunge, metal, punk and of course, goth. She sports a t-shirt with a skull that follows her facial expression. It seems to have a mind of his own too.She has a sly pet black cat named Jang Keng. Being younger, Yumi is also more impetuous than Ami and rushes headlong into a decision before thinking. However, Yumi has a mature side, too, and sometimes reasons with Ami's childish obsession.

Ingrid Third from Fillmore!. The show is genius. It's about solving crimes in a middle school, with the style of hard-boiled police dramas. Ingrid is Fillmore's partner in the Safety Patrol. Like him, she was a delinquent in the past. She was sent to a reform school in Nepal for an incident "involving a stinkbomb and pinata". She became "Public Enemy No.1" when she moved to X Middle School (though she and Fillmore found out who's the real culprit). She then became the smartest kid in X Middle School due to her photographic memory and is became very helpful in solving cases with Fillmore, even though she's a rookie. She's very determined, tough and understated.

Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice. Great movie, great cartoon (even there's a lot of changes). In the film, Beetlejuice was the antagonist, who ended up nearly marrying a disgusted Lydia. In the series, they are best friends, and Lydia, something of a social misfit in the living world, frequently visits him in the afterlife during her free time. She summons him in a longer ritual and wears a cobweb-patterned red pancho. She's in her preteens in the show but pretty much mature, well-mannered and friendly, especially towards the creatures of the Neitherworld. She's an amateur, but nonetheless, talented photographer, etymologist, seamstress and sketch artist artist with an innate affinity and love for all things gross, scary, weird and macabre, and who celebrates all that is "strange and unusual".

Shareena Wickett from Detention. It's another short-livedold 90's show with a goth girl. It's about a bunch of kids with different personalities and looks who ends up in detention, coz they just want to make merry and mischief. Shareena is considered their leader against Miss Eugenia Kisskillya, the PE teacher and former military sergeant. Shareena is very free spirited and is not scared of standing up for herself and getting what she wants. She's sometimes sarcastic, moody and rude, and even manipulate other children to rebel with her. She hated pink (but she has a pet pig). She once released moths to eat the pink dress her cheerful mom bought for her.

Misery from Ruby Gloom. Her mishaps are usually a combination of clumsiness and extraordinary bad luck. Evidently, these traits run in her family, as Misery has had relatives who have been present at every single major disaster in recorded history. Fortunately, her friends are all kindhearted enough to take this in stride. Misery spends most of the time in a state of detached apathy and with ever-present trails of tears running from her eyes. She does have tiny moments of happiness throughout the series, but unless they're few and far between, her bad luck rears its ugly head and strikes her down with a vengeance, usually in the form of lightning bolts. But during Friday the 13th, her bad luck gives her a break. She has a talent for singing, well when she's asleep. Otherwise, her singing comes out like banshee screams.

Joan of Arc from Clone High. She's the clone of Jeanne d'Arc, a 15th century teenage girl who joined the French Army and was burned at a stake for heresy. Unlike the real saint, Joan is an agnostic, doesn't believe in a deity. Well, the rest of the clones do parody the historic figures. As for Joan, she's the goth bestfriend of Abe Lincoln, along with Gandhi. She's very bright, witty, ethical, feministic, vegan and outspoken. But she's full of angst, especially that she's in love with Abe, who's very clueless and instead, in love with Cleopatra. Joan has a tendency to erupt melodramatically into tears, usually when Abe ignores her advances. She doesn't have many friends, especially girls. But guys are attracted to her, especially JFK. She usually beats them up for this.

Birch Small from My Life Me. It's a new animated series. Though it's drawn in manga style, it's still considered a cartoon, not anime, because of the animation style and westernized plots. Birch is a budding artist and a big fan of manga and anime (like the show's creator). She has problems surviving even one day in high school and her social life. She's the youngest and shortest in the class, so she's always the mismatched one, even among her three friends. Unlike the other cartoon goth girls, Birch is very timid and doesn't have that tough attitude like her skater friend, Sandra. But she's very determined to become a professional artist, even if she had to deal with distractions and confusions of teendom.

I know a lot of you are looking for Raven from Teen Titans.

Girls Gone Goth

Most of my favorite episodes in cartoon shows are when there are goth exchange students, or the main characters themselves had gone goth, even just once. So I'm telling you now, the following pictures are not fan-arts.

Alex in "Creepy Crawly Much?"(Totally Spies) In this episode, Alex was a bit down because her bestfriends, Sam and Clover, have their own boyfriends, while she's always ending up with weird guys, until she bumped into this somber goth guy. Sam and Clover found it too much when Alex's goth boyfriend painted her room black, and Alex kept on speaking in bad goth poetry. Alex dropped the goth scene when their villain, who's a half-insect king, choose her to be his queen because she likes darkness like cockroaches do.

Candace in "Flop Starz" (Phineas and Ferb). This only happened for a second because Candace was trying out different outfits before going to a concert. Her best friend, Stacey, only commented on this, "Too goth." In the end, Candace wore her signature outfit anyway. There's also a girl rock band called The Bettys (Get ready for the Bettys). During that episode, Candace was wearing a spiked collar. There's also another episode where Candace and the goth girl Vanessa had their clothes switched in the dry cleaners (Hail Doofenia!). Candace didn't want to get out of the car so no one could see her in goth clothing (and it didn't fit right coz she's so thin). But somebody did and texted it to everybody, yet Jeremy likes it. I totally laughed when she freaked out in front of him.

Lisa Simpson in "Smart and Smarter" (The Simpsons) When Lisa found out that her baby sister, Maggie, had a higher IQ than her, she suffered in identity crisis. She tried out different social images like cowgirl, soccer girl, cheerleader, rapper, stand-up comedian, etc. Goth was her second choice. Her name was Ravencrone Neversmiles. But Milhouse ruined it when he asked her to make out in the cemetery. He also thought that Lisa was an Oakland Raiders fan! "It's called goth, eternally clueless one," replied Lisa.

Nebula from 6teen. Her real name was Starr, who became Jude's girlfriend. Before she became a hard-core goth, Starr loves skateboarding, being a vegan, yoga, poetry, and New Age. Come to think of it, these things are also loved by some goths. Anyway, in the episode Light’s Out, Jude was totally shocked to find Starr turned into Nebula, “dark and fathomless”. She had gone goth because her eyes were opened and saw the world, “It’s not pretty.” This is the first episode I watched and it’s really sweet because Jude also turned into a goth to please his girlfriend. Nebula belonged to a group of four other goths. One guy works in a soft ice-cream shop. They’re always putting irony on goth stereotypes.

Yin in "Gone-A-Fowl" (Yin Yang Yo!) Yin was forced to be Coop's girlfriend for the day. She finds out that, when aggravated, he can become extremely evil, zapping chaos and darkness (even to clothing). And yet, in his evil phase, he becomes extremely hot. Yin found this as a problem; he can't be hot, at the same time, good. Coop's solution: turn Yin evil and goth! They became a powerful evil couple called Yoop and decided to be Night Masters for the Dark Tomorrow. Yang found evil Yin, or as she calls herself, Eve, impossible to defeat. "C'mon, sis, you don't want to be evil." Yin's reply: You get to wear black >:D

Kimiko in "The Return of the Pandabubba" (Xiaolin Showdown) Of all the various stylish outfits Kimiko wear in every episode, only this one had I found to be goth. And in this episode, Kimiko cried so much, because her dad was turned into a zombie by Pandabubba using the Zing-Zom Bone. It is indeed a goth episode, with all the zombies and the Shroud of Shadows, and the style is that of a horror movie.

Stella in Exchange Students (Winx Club). Stella, the most fashionable of the fairies, had gone goth, too. Well, only in her imagination. When the Winx heard the news that they're going to Cloud Tower and work with the witches, she imagined her self in different goth witch outfits. But she didn't like the idea very much. Also in this episode, Mirta had a major role as she accompanied the Winx Club in her former school. More of Stella's goth outfits are in this site.

Numbuh 3 in "Operation: C.A.R.A.M.E.L." We've seen the sweet and happy-go-lucky Kuki turning to the dark side, especially when she became the Grim Reaper's replacement in Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure. But in "Operation: Candies Are Really Altering Many Extraordinary Lives", Numbuh 3 had been altered into a cynical goth girl! Heinrich Von Marzipan, the infamous candy hunter, had used a sacred ancient ritual in creating the best caramels by sacrificing his victims' most valued quality. In Numbuh 3's case, it was her bubbly and lovable personality. It was removed from her, leaving a total goth, and turned the caramels almost too sweet.

Malina in "Girls Behaving Oddly" (The Emperor's New School) In this episode, Malina was kicked out of the cheerleading squad because of an A minus. She then made friends with Moxie, the typical wild-haired, tough, bad it-girl, but not really goth goth. They do wear skull earrings and black jackets, and Malina changed her name to just "Mali." She was dared to do bad thing but failed because of Kuzco and Kronk. In the end, Malina's grade was a mistake, and so, she's back to being an A student.

Vicky (Vexus) in "Queen Bee" (My Life as a Teenage Robot) Technically, she had gone human goth girl. Vexus is a cruel alien robot queen that's bent to conquer Earth. The Crust Sisters, the popular school mean girls, taught her the correct teen slang and fashion, as part of their plan to destroy XJ9. Like Brit and Tiff, she changed her gothic clothes daily. But she became more and more popular and powerful than the Crust Sisters. The two then have to team up with Jenny so they won't become social outcasts. Interestingly, their main outfits in the episode are also goth.

Betty and Veronica in She's Goth to Have It (Archie Comics) Of all the thousands of comic strips, this is the only one where the casts had gone

goth together. At first, Betty was feeling ignored by her friends and met two goth girls in a new coffee shop. She had gone goth to get attention from her friends but she realized she was just ignoring them, like what they did to her. In the end, Veronica, Archie and Reggie had gone goth, too, to Betty's attention.

Creepy Little Girls

Though they're not branded as baby goths, these little girls
do make fans out of us with their gothic little ways.

Mandy from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy Alright, here comes the almighty Mandy! The show is simply genius! I wish I could have thought of a kid's show with the Grim Reaper in it. Mandy, along with Billy, owns the Grim Reaper after winning in a limbo game. He serves them as their best friend forever. As for Mandy, she abuses him for doing chores and other selfish whims. She's truly cold and tough, very cynical and hostile. She never smiles. If she did, it will tear the fabric of reality. She wants to rule the world and practically hates anything. She has a fear of figure skaters, distrusting the way they spin. Her "best friend" is Billy, though she treats him like a monkey. She seems to care when he's in trouble but it's only for a her own benefit like Billy owes her ten bucks. Also, aside from Billy's idiotic yet kind-hearted personality, he's a psychopath.

Creepella "Creepie" Creecher from Growing Up Creepie By just the name, you know she's creepy. She's raised by creepy crawlies. The show is produced by Discovery Kids to let kids learn more about the wonderful world of insects. She was abandoned as a baby in Dweezwold Mansion, where a lot of insects live in. Her father is a vegan vampire-like mosquito and her mother is a MorticiaAddams-like praying mantis. Creepie, of course, can talk to them but she keeps her life a secret because Middlington is a town of insectophobic people, except for her best friend Budge who knows her secret. Her love interest is Tarantula Boy, a.k.a. Skipper, who's actually half tarantula from the carnival. Creepie is really goth with her cynical, sarcastic and mysterious nature, and her favorite word is "Wicked". Whenever she recites a poem, creepy stuffs happen. And her photography brings out the beauty of the dark. I really like her because of her overall look and she's not afraid of bugs (though she's afraid of clowns'). Also the theme song is totally wicked.

Gaz from Invader Zim Here's another of my favorite goth girls. Gaz is "Dib's scary sister". She has a penchant for video games and a fixation with pizza and piggies. When someone stand in the way of her getting those things, she won't hesitate to thrust them into "a nightmare world from which there is no awakening." She seems to possess spooky supernatural powers. She knows that Zim is an alien, but doesn't care because she thinks he's too stupid to take over the world. Although she is possibly the smartest character on the show, Gaz, like the others, has shown some obvious signs of insanity. She's really cute when her eyes open wide. Her outfit is similar to Pepito, the son of Satan, from Jhonen Vasquez's "Squee!".

Ruby Gloom from Ruby Gloom. Like Emily the Strange and Pucca, she's from an apparel franchise and made into an animated series. Ruby is indeed what we call "Perky Goth". She has earned her title of "The Happiest Girl in the World". She is a girl who can find happiness in anything. "Look on the bright side" is a phrase she chants like a mantra, and it serves her well. There isn't a single thing in the world that gets her down or a single negative that she can't turn into a positive. Her positive attitude has been shown to be helpful, as it allows Ruby to act as the voice of reason in the mansion, while her friends tends to lose focus on real issues. Ruby also has a crush on Skull Boy, who is one of her friends. Her upbeat outlook also makes Ruby very loyal to her friends and there's nothing she wouldn't do for any of them. She likes to have quiet time to write in her diary and sew with Doom Kitty.

Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family Now this is a family of creepy and grim relatives. There were two animated series, 1973 and 1992. The picture is from the 1973. In 1992, Wednesday is wearing a dark blue dress. Unlike in the films, where she was portrayed by Christina Ricci, the cartoon Wendesday Addams is much sweeter, but still she loves death and the macabre, and enjoys torturing her brother Pugsley in a friendly atmosphere. She has pet spiders and her doll is named Marie Antoinette whose head is already guillotined. Her name is based on the nursery rhyme "Wednesday's child is full of woe."

Lenore from Lenore, the Cute Little Dead Girl. Created by Roman Dirge, Lenore was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's famous poem. Lenore died young of pneumonia but she came back to life to play and kill. She lives in an eerie mansion in the town of Nevermore with her creepy friends, like the cursed vampire ragdoll, Ragamuffin. Lenore gives dark macabre twists to cute innocent themes, like nursery rhymes, and most of the humor is very graphic and gruesome. While Lenore's actions often result in chaos and death to those around her, she is not a malicious character and is quite naive, especially when killing her many pets. But on some instances, she hurts/murders people not by accident, but out of spite or revenge. That is creepy cute fun!

Gruftine/Gothetta from School For Vampires. Though the show is so awesome and popular in Europe, it's stuck in darkness, so little is known about it. It's obviously about a school for young vampires. The character designs are amazing, and the setting and plot is like that of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Gruftine is one of the main characters and her English name is Gothetta. She has a preppy gothic personality and the brains of the group.

Frida Suárez from El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera. A tomboyish and mischievous little girl, she's the best friend of Manny a.k.a. El Tigre, who usually gets them into trouble due to her extreme sense of adventure and crazy random attitude. Though she has no super powers or gadgets, she helps Manny save the day, and rescues him even. Frida's father is the chief of police and ironically, she's a rule breaker and trouble maker. She's the lead guitarist of a rock band called the Atomic Sombreros, and sports a punk goth look, especially in a country that celebrates Dias de los Muertos. Diego, a.k.a. Heloise from Jimmy Two-Shoes Her name already tells that she's from Hell, well, Miseryville that is. She's the mad scientist of the evil factory, Misery Inc., owned by Lucius Heinous VII (Lucifer maybe) whose authority she doesn't respect. She maybe charming and cheerful but she uses her brains and crazy inventions to spread chaos and destruction. It's her job but she loves doing it anywhere she goes. She uses her best friends Jimmy and Beezy (son of Lucius) as her test subjects. She and Jimmy seem to be the only humans in their world. She has an obvious crush on him, but she usually shows this by being mean. She never does anything nice, but at least, she smiles regularly.

Ellen from Edgar & Ellen The books and the cartoon series are about two twins who cause mischief and mayhem in their sickly sweet town, Nod's Limbs. They live in a 13-story mansion, near the junkyard or the "Gadget Graveyard." They have no parents, although, they have a creepy-smiling groundskeeper named Heimertz. The twins are named after Edgar Allan Poe, with Pet being Poe (it's a hairball creature with one eye). Ellen is older by 2 minutes and 13 seconds. She's the mad scientist who concocts potions from her living plants, while Edgar specializes in gadgets and stunts. They are both clever and creative in carrying out pranks, but they usually quarrel and their pranks backfire.

Maggot from Zombie Hotel I haven't seen an episode of this Disney show, but by the pictures of them from the Internet, it's really nice. Like Edgar and Ellen, the protagonists are the twins Maggot and Fungus who lives in a creepy mansion. But their zombie family turned this mansion into a hotel. Yet they have to hide their secret from the townspeople while they attend school with their best friend Sam, who knows their secret and whom Maggot has a crush on. The character designs of the show are pretty neat and wished I could watch it on TV.

Jacqueline and Delphine from Barbie: A Fashion Fairy Tale. You read it right. After those many pink and pretty Barbie films, there's one that has goths (as the villains that is). Jacqueline owns the fashion boutique across Millicent's. Jacqueline's edgy and savvy fashion (like that of hip goths and Alexader McQueen) caused it to go out of business, until Barbie came along and discovered the Flairies. Jacqueline actually doesn't want to be trendy; she wants to start the trends herself. As for Delphine, she's her preppy assistant and number-one fan. She goes along Jacqueline's evil schemes, but she's actually nice inside. They kidnapped the Flairies and forced them to do their magic on their new collection. To be honest I love her designs much more than Barbie's princessy outfits. Also, in this movie, it was Barbie's first time to be seen in black most of the time.

Lizzy from Meet the Robinsons. She was in the science fair with her pet fire ants which only harm her “enemies”. Wilbur Robinson bumped into her and her fire ants escaped, adding chaos in the science fair. When I saw the previews, I thought Lizzy’s going to be some goth sidekick or anti-hero, but her role actually in the movie is quite short. Yet, in the video game, she’s the main antagonist. She became the Ant Queen in the future with her gigantic pet ants which stole the time machine.

Zee from Monster House. Also known as Elizabeth who acts like a sweet and responsible babysitter in front of DJ's parents, but when they're gone, she turns to her real goth self. She's insensitive to DJ and Chowder and she listens to SkullXBones. Her boyfriend is also named Bones (while a videogame geek is named Skull) who's in a band and also bullies the kids. They had a fight that night, and Bones got eaten by the Monster House. While the goody-two-shoes Jenny tried to sell her Halloween candy, Zee revealed she went to the fancy school called Westbrook Prep , too, but got kicked out. Her future became unsuccessful coz she gave her phone number to a guy with tattoos, instead of his burger in a drive-thru. That scene is my favorite coz little Jenny wasn't afraid of a tough goth girl and got to sell candy with wise-ass deals.

Pig from Back at the Barnyard. The show is about talking and partying barnyard animals who uses disguises to get around humans in some episodes. In "Some Like It Snotty", Otis the Cow and the others (including Pig) wanted to attend ladies night in the bowling alley. So, they disguised themselves as girls. As for Pig, he used a goth girl outfit! Though they were hideous, Snotty Boy (their enemy) and his friends forced them on a date. Pig was paired to the emo boy and still retained his tough goth girl identity. He punched the emo kid when he started getting comfortable. Pig also used the same disguise briefly in "Doggelganer".

Vidia from Tinker Bell. Aside from Barbie, Tinker Bell has her own film series and books. Vidia is a Disney fairy but she's usually the anti-hero. But no, her power is not darkness or something like that. She's the fast-flying-talent fairy whose element is nature. She's the fastest one of them all and totally brags about it, thinking no one can reach her high level, especially Tinker Bell. She's very self-centered, cynical, independent and secretive. She hides pixie dusts and races dragonflies. She thinks all fairies aren't created equally but actually she's struggling in being a misfit. She's the loner one, living in a sour plum tree, away from the Home Tree. She was also suspected of stealing the Queen's crown in her own book Vidia and the Fairy Crown.

Emelia from Emelia, the Five Year Old Goth Girl. It's an animated short film about a little goth girl and her views of everyday life. Of course, the cartoon is definitely full of dark comedy as it shows the life and culture of stereotypical baby goths. She has a pet bat, eats Count Chocula cereal, listens to Marilyn Manson and enjoys Halloween. Emelia is very much lovable and creepy. Her voice as the narrator is really freaky and the music is like a "magical" metal genre. The cartoon won a lot of awards as best animation and best short film, leveling its self to Pixar.

These goth gals are just secondary characters in cartoons. Most of them are classmates or family members. But these goths are portrayed like they were the stereotypes, to add to the sitcom humor of the show.

The Hex Girls is a fictitious gothic rock band in the latest Scooby Doo movies like Scooby Doo and the Witch’s Curse and Scooby Doo and the Legend of the Vampire. They appeared again in a series episode, The Vampire Strikes Back. The one with the pigtails is Dusk. She’s the drummer and the rebel of the band. In the middle is Thorn, their leader. She’s the guitarist and she’s part Wiccan. Then, there’s Luna, the keyboardist. Her father is a dentist so they have those genuine fangs. Their songs are pretty original and cool, I think. It’s about time there’s someone goth in a cartoon full of ghosts and mysteries.

M.O.M. from Martin Mystery. Her name stands for Mystery Organization Manager. She’s the director of The Center, a secret organization that protects the world from the paranormal and extraterrestrial. She looks goth with her Zelda hairdo and purple make-up, but for her, white is the new black. She has a dry sense of humor (totally serious but she usually bottles up her anger), but one time she was described as a “real party animal.” She kicks serious alien butt, does experiments on monsters and engages on the secrets of the other world – much like the profession some paranormal enthusiasts would want, but can’t.

Annette Freeze-Dright from Fred's Head. Mysterious and enigmatic, Anette is Fred's dream girl and Fabienne's best female friend. She has piercing eyes and a royal demeanor. Anette's Dad is an ambassador and her mom an ex-Bollywood star. Annette lives in a mansion in the upper-class part of the city and is sometimes seen going to school in a limo. Her wardrobe has a definite goth and hippie twist. She is passionate about her art, and is often seen painting or exposing her abstract pieces or self-portraits. Since she is not very expressive in general, it's hard to know if she notices Fred's attraction for her. They had a couple of interesting encounters that generally turned out to be somewhat catastrophic. They're actually a perfect couple. Fred also has that blasé, awkward, troubled, gothy teenager personality and look.

Vanessa Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb. She’s the daughter of the mad scientist, Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, who is one of the funniest villains I’ve encountered, ever. He assumes that his daughter is also evil because she’s a goth. Actually, Vanessa’s first evil deed was to steal a Mary McGuffin doll. Her attitude is typically goth, cynical. But, like Candace, she wants to prove to her mom (divorced) that her dad is an evil scientist, but she also fails. She has a crush on a boy named Johnny, typical psycho name. At first, I didn’t expect that Vanessa’s goth, just some biker chic with her leather get-up and her face isn’t really that goth. But they called her goth in the show, so there. There’s an episode where Dr. Doofenshmirtz created a ray to turn anything ugly. It pointed to a concert. Everyone in the audience, plus the band, turned into metalheads.

Raven McFadden from Growing Up Creepie. She first appeared in the episode Goth to Have Better Friends, along with two goth guys, Misery and Morpheus (can’t they come up with other goth names?!) She first noticed Creepie because of her gothic fashion and invited her to their gang. Of course, Creepie enjoyed their gloomy montage. Raven and the others are avid fans of the fictitious band “The Hissing Roaches” who are real cockroaches living in Creepie’s basement. The goth gang appeared again in Going to Brogue. They actually have a rock band named “Plaid Vapors” that has a bagpiper. Raven’s the guitarist but the haunted bagpipes belonged to her great great great great great grandfather, Angus. I just love her catch phrase: gruesomely awesome.

Creepy Susie from The Oblongs. She first appeared in a book entitled Creepy Susie and 13 Other Tragic Tales for Troubled Children. Her complete name is Susane Marcheline Rachelle Garnier. She’s one of Milo Oblong’s friends, the Clubhouse Kids. She speaks about the worst ways to die and her murderous deeds, in a French accent. She floats around, instead of walking, plus, her feet were never seen. She’s also a pyromaniac. I haven’t watched any episode of The Oblongs, but when I watched clips about Creepy Susie in Youtube, I…like…her. She’s a true goth. Totally, especially with that French accent. And so, I watched all The Oblongs episodes. Too bad they were short-lived.

Kara from American Dragon: Jake Long. She and her twin sister, Sara, are oracles. So, you might think Kara, the goth one, would predict the bad future. But actually it's the other way around. Sara predicts the bad future, but she's still the optimist because she constantly tries to see the bright side of everything. As for Kara, she predicts the good future but she's the pessimist because her power spoils life's good moments for her. And besides if everything is bright and good, you might get sick of it. In season 1, they look alike with different outfits and shade of red hair. But this picture of Kara is from season 2 where Sara is blonde. I like the character designs better in season 1.

Mirta from Winx. She stood out quite prominently from the other witches of Cloud Tower. She can produce pictures from emotions. Her sweet and shy nature made her a target of ridicule and scorn there, except for her roommate and childhood friend, Lucy. Mirta doesn't think the fairies are bad and even attempts to help Bloom on one occasion. At the end of Season One, she transfers to Alfea College, where it is unclear whether she is truly fairy or witch, as she grows wings, but tends to revert to dark magic. It's so good to see a true fairy goth.

Bleak Molly from Fish Hooks. This show is really great in parodying the stereotypical high school life. There's a goth fish group of course. They're usually in the background, as in always in the back and shadows of the class. There's Razor V. Doom, their leader (has an awesome morbid voice), Stabbo (who's always seen and mistaken for an emo), the third goth guy (looks like an octo-punk) and Bleak Molly (the second goth to have a speaking role). The goths made a major role in The Dark Side of the Fish. Because Oscar's poetry was morbid and hates bunnies, Razor invited him in their group but Oscar's geeky and lovable side still shows even he had gone goth. As for Bleak Molly, her poem was about rainbows. "Dear rainbows, please hang up and try your call again for I am busy."

Chloe Crashman from Carl². She’s the sister of the main character, Carl. Like other teenaged goth, she ignores her family and goes out to party in the cemetery. But she has a love-hate relationship with her brother. She’s called the “Damsel of Darkness” but ironically, her boyfriend Damien is afraid of the dark, but he’s still goth. I haven’t watched this cartoon yet. It’s about a teen named Carl having a clone do his stupid errands at school and home. I don’t know if Chloe knows about Carl’s clone. Just let me know, ‘kay? Oh yeah, Chloe changed her looks season to season. That’s cool because it’s really rare to see most cartoon characters change their looks.

Ophelia Ramirez from The Life and Times of Juniper Lee. With a world of monsters, a goth is there. She’s one of June’s best friends. Ophelia is the total opposite of Jody, the peppy other best friend. If Creepy Susie is French, well Ophelia is Mexican and speaks fluent Spanish, but not in most episodes. But Ophelia is more of a punk or an ill-tempered goth. One friend, the dorky Roger, has a crush on her. She acts like a bully to her friends, but she still cherishes them, “Keep your stupid friends closer.” She’s like Mandy, except Ophelia smiles sometimes.

Serena from Downtown. She's the love interest of the shy and geeky Alex. According to Jen, it's another of his hopeless goth girl fixations. Serena's exotic goth style is off-putting at first, but she's actually a very likable, positive person. She works at Starbase 12, a comic book store, with Matt. Creatively unfocused, she writes poetry, designs clothes, makes jewelry, and plays the zither. Serena has dated a string of junkies, posers, and manic-depressives. She claims she's ready to meet a "nice guy", but she rarely notices them when they are around.

Poppy from Lola and Virginia. She’s one of Lola’s best friends and the brawn who could foil Virginia’s nasty plans. She’s an extreme skater girl and a bit of a tomboy. She’s punk, but I regard her as goth, too, compared to the other characters. Besides, haven’t you noticed? Poppy wears a skull shirt and a spiked collar. The goth gals above have skull shirts and spiked collars. They always do in cartoons. There's also Beatrice, Virginia's smart best friend. She usually wears black and is a bit shy, but sly when it comes to gossips.

Debbie Hyman from American Dad!. She’s Steve Smith’s girlfriend. She’s the first goth I’ve seen who’s fat. “Life is a banquet…Death is dessert.” She first appeared in the episode The American Dad After School Special. They first met in the dark air vents when Steve was hiding from gym class. Debbie was there because she wanted to look down on everybody like ants. Then, they dated in a cemetery. She wasn’t much accepted by Steve’s parents, but she won his father’s liking because she was a gun enthusiast. She even gave Stan a stuffed squirrel with a pencil sharpener on its eye socket. There are episodes that Debbie broke up with Steve, but later came back again. She even ran for student council president coz the mean girls cut off the budget for dissecting baby pigs.

2 Goth Girls from A Goofy Movie. Never expect goths in this Disney movie? Wrong. The movie is about Goofy and his teenage son, Max. It was made during the 90's, so there are a lot of stereotypical kids and music in his school, from grunge to hip-hop. While going to school, Max sang "After Today" showcasing different kinds of 90's kids. There's a scene in the school bus with cheerleaders, followed by two goth girls in the front seat, singing "No more prep rallies to cut!". They made a puking sign and shouted "blech!". In the sequel "An Extremely Goofy Movie", there's a beatnik girl who befriended Max and company. You know beatniks, black fashion and dark poetry. But still different from goth.

Henrietta from South Park. She’s one of the Goth Kids at school, but the episode where they starred is The Ungroundables. Henrietta is the only goth gal, and the only goth whose name is known. She’s always seen smoking. She’s also overweight like Debbie. Her gloomy room is a hangout for the Goth Kids. Her mom says nice things about her, though Henrietta’s a conformist, especially towards her.

Andrea from Daria. I love the show and the title character. Daria and Jane are so much like me and my bestfriend in high school. The two are the social outcasts but actually the others are just out of place in their world. They share the same dark and misanthropic views and attitudes as what goths would typically show. But their style isn't goth, more of alternative rock. But there is a goth in the show and she's Andrea. She's a recurring background character but had some speaking roles. She has a darkly nihilistic personality, as evidenced by her poetry, and works a parent-enforced part-time job as a stock clerk in a local warehouse store. She finds Daria and Jane as an intimidating pair but she's surprised that they're the only ones who understand her situation. In the episode Depth Takes a Holiday, the personification of Halloween is a rebellious and selfish goth girl who plays the drums and leaves cobwebs wherever she stays.

Triana Orpheus from The Venture Bros. I’ve heard of this show but I couldn’t stay up that late to catch it in Adult Swim. Just some interesting facts I picked from Wikipedia: Triana is the daughter of Dr. Byron Orpheus (like the Doofenshmirtzes). He’s a necromancer. Yeah, a necromancer (talk about death and darkness), but he and his daughter are friends with the Venture twins. Triana is the stereotypical goth who goes to parties, drinks and smokes.

Dark Heroines

There are a lot of comic books out there with heroines of dark powers, but I'll be just narrowing it down to those who made it to animated series. There are quite a number of them. Some are even new and didn't start in a comic book.

Raven from Teen Titans The daughter of the demon, Trigon, Raven inherited powerful dark abilities such as psychokinesis, teleportation, magical spells, empathy and "soul self" and has three incarnations. When she found out her father will come to our world, she joined the Teen Titans to stop him. Her powers and looks retained in the animated series, and voiced by Tara Strong, who voiced many other goth girl characters. Raven is of course the silent one in the team. She's emotionally restrained and mysteriously secretive. She spends her spare time reading occult books, meditating in mid-air and hiding in her dark room. As for romance, she only has a love-hate relationship with Beast Boy, who would try to make her laugh (but fails). And on some parties, Raven mopes around with an unnamed emo boy. She's the most awesome goth heroine around, not only is she from the dark side, but she still stays in the good side. Her favorite words are "Azarath Metrion Zinthos" (so Lovecraft).

Rogue from X-Men: Evolution Now we're in Marvel comics. In the series, Rogue is re-imagined as a rebellious and cynic, yet insecure and emotionally needy teenager (very stereotypical for a goth). But it's because of her power to involuntarily absorb energies of others when touched. It keeps her distant from friends and love ones. I mean, if she kisses her boyfriend, he might die. Indeed, she considers her mutant power as a curse. In the cartoon, her power is very strong that it almost drove her insane. She has romantic feelings for Cyclops, but dislikes Jean Grey because she's pretty and popular. So typical for an outcast, considering she was raised by Mystique. Now, which side is Rogue now?

Liz Sherman from Hellboy Animated She looks awesome in the comics and films, but in this animated series, they could have gotten better with the character design and story. Yet I did like the second one "Hellboy: Blood and Iron." Liz was born normal, but when she was 10, she discovered her power of pyrokinesis! She's Catholic (cross necklace there) and thought it resulted from her sins. She tried to control it with prayers, but soon destroyed houses and killed her family. The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense then took her in, helped her control her pyrokinetic powers and made her into an agent. Like the other dark heroines, it's her power that makes her bitter and gothy. She ran away from BPRD thirteen times but soon came back due to Hellboy.

Argent in Calling All Titans! (Teen Titans Go). I thought Raven was the only goth super heroine in the show. But there's Argent and she's totally into the goth scene and fashion. She even asked for a black communicator to go with her outfit, instead of the original yellow one. In the episode, she meets Starfire and becomes an honorary Titan, but she is soon captured by the Brotherhood of Evil because they want her super power. Argent can fire crimson energy beams, and can use that energy to form objects, similar to the abilities of the Green Lantern. She could also fly at high altitudes and speeds. She's freakin' awesome, and cute. In the original comics, she's half-alien, summoned during her sweet sixteen party and instead of crimson, her plasmas were silver, like her skin, and usually turned into daggers.

Phantom Girl from Legion of Super Heroes. She's the daughter of the president of the United Planets, Winema Wazzo, in the 31st century, making her a princess who is kind of spoiled yet rebellious, but ultimately very devoted to being in the Legion. She has a somewhat sarcastic attitude to cover the fact that she really gets a kick out of finally being with other kids like herself. Phantom Girl has the power to turn intangible, allowing her to phase through solid objects. In this animated series, she also has displayed the ability to turn other people and objects temporarily intangible, and the ability to disrupt electrical systems by passing through them. She is most often seen with Timber Wolf, the fierce unstable loner, for whom she seems to have some feelings, somewhat like Beauty and the Beast.

Shrinking Violet from Legion of Super Heroes. Also known as Salu Digby, LeViathan and Atom Girl, she has the ability to vary her size, especially into microscopic size, just like her people in planet Imsk. With this unique ability, the Imskians are experts in biotechnology and micro-circuitry. As for Shrinking Violet, she's an expert in transneural photonics and sabotage. She failed her first audition in the Legion of Super Heroes due to her extreme shyness until Triplicate Girl gave her enough self confidence. She became notorious for her weird laugh, and became a love interest to Brainiac 5. Violet first appeared in a black and dark pink costume and frizzy hair, but after she sabotaged the Emerald Eye, she appears in this green cybergoth look.

Yumi Ishayama from Code Lyoko. Being the oldest in the group, Yumi often seems distant and cold, but her outward appearances belie a generous, sensitive and loyal friend, which she only lets people see on rare occasions. Tough as nails but with a heart as soft as a plum, Yumi is the product of a traditional Japanese upbringing. Her natural charisma also has friends looking to her as the leader of the group. She is also very close to Ulrich, but this strong and complex relationship is often threatened when William is around. In the virtual world of Lyoko, Yumi is a profound gymnast with unimaginable capabilities. But of course, even on Earth, she has great oriental martial art skills. Her choice of weapon is a pair of metal fans, which she uses to deflect monsters' missiles and as a deadly discus. It can slice off the slimiest of giant insect heads. Another awesome of hers: telekinesis!

Violet Parr from The Incredibles She has the power of invisibility, the ability every angsty teenager wants to have. Though I don't have angst back in high school, I sure needed it for mischief. Anyway, her other power is creating force fields. She's more of an emo girl in the movie. She has a deep crush on the popular boy, tries to blend in (but only to turn invisible) and mopes about her abnormal family. Her long hair is even emoish. At the end of the movie, she wore a headband, symbolizing the end of her shadowy emo life.

Kylie Griffin from Extreme Ghostbusters The series was made after the animated "The Real Ghostbusters." Dr. Egon Spengler recruited new and younger members. One of them is Kylie Griffin, a goth girl genius and of course, an expert of the paranormal. She usually wields the Ghost Traps and claims to be the unofficial leader. She's usually calm among her teammates, especially Eduardo (like the of Raven and Beastboy), and keen towards their awesome job. But she's afraid of maggots.

Villainess

Most antagonists, especially from Disney princess movies, are always on the dark side. The following list of femme fatales not only loves the dark, but puts it in their personality and appearance as goths.

Mai from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Another awesome show, another awesome goth girl. She's one of Princess Azula's sidekicks , opposite to the happy-go-lucky Ty Lee. (Azula is another character I adore but I don't see her as a goth). She's also Prince Zuko's love interest; it's like angry emo boy meets cold goth girl. Mai is the daughter of a governor in the Fire Nation. Since she was young, she was given everything she wanted, thus she thinks her life is so boring. She's also bred to be well-mannered and quiet by her parents, thus, she hides her true emotions from others. This is why the show won the Peabody Award for "Unusually Complex Characters." Mai may be from the Fire Nation, but she's not a firebender. Instead, she has stilettos and shuriken knives as her deadly weapons hidden beneath her sleeves. She can take down any soldiers and benders with these, even the main protagonists find her as a fearsome opponent.

The Trix from Winx Club. This show is so full of magic, and who would be the goths? The witches, of course. The Trix compose of Icy (leader), Stormy and Darcy. Clearly, their name spells out the elements they use in witchcraft and their personality. Icy is cold and cruel; Stormy is ill-tempered and proud; and Darcy is dark and calm. They hate fairies and want to take over the realm of Magix. They became the main antagonists in the first season but the next ones, they served Lork Darkar and Valtor. For a cartoon with stylish fashion designs on the characters, I don't find the outfits of the Trix match them. As witches, they're costumes need more details and in Disenchantix form, they look like belly dancers! But their hairstyles are awesome and also their make-up is totally goth.

Marceline the Vampire Queen from Adventure Time. A 1,000-year-old vampire girl introduced as a villain who steals Finn and Jake's homes, but later reveals that she only wanted to scare them to death for fun. Despite seeming evil at first, she is more of a trickster, and her "evil plans" often turn out to be nothing more than harmless jokes and teasing. Yet she generally lets her own interests come before others. She drinks "shades of red" such as the color of strawberries, as opposed to blood, but is still vulnerable to sunlight and is capable of turning into a giant anthropomorphic bat. She can levitate, shapeshift, implement necromancy and pyrokinesis, control her hair and stupefy her victims. Her father is evil incarnate but seems to have a strained relationship with him (just like Vanessa Doofenshmirtz whose voice actress also voiced Marceline). She is a wild rocker girl who doesn't fear anything. She's a gifted musician with an incredible singing voice and plays the axe-bass.

Black Cuervo (Zoe Avez) from El Tigre!. She came from a family of villainesses called the Flock of Fury. Her mother is Voltura and her grandmother is Lady Cobbler. They're all against the Rivera men due to romantic yet disastrous pasts with them. As for Zoe, she has an obvious crush on Manny and would fight him to get close. Since his best and closest friend is Frida (whom I think resembles a cybergoth), Zoe has a rivalry with her for Manny's attention. As a super villain, the Black Cuervo mixes physical moves with lasers, has jet propelled wings and deadly talons, and keeps her real identity a secret unlike the other villains in the show. If you don't know yet, cuervo means "crow."

Narcissa from PopPixie. It's a spin-off from Winx Club where the sickly cute pixies star in. This time, the villains aren't witches, but the Elves (would never expect it). In Pixieville, the elves are rich and luxurious yet quite conceited and malicious, using dark spells for chaos and other selfish whims. Contrast to the pixies' hip, prep and pop, the elves have the alternative lifestyle looks like metal, cyber and biker. Narcissa is obviously the gothic one. She is rather lazy but gets easily irritated, especially towards her idiot and immature boyfriend, Floxy. But he's too scared to break up with her. Narcissa feels inferior among the elves so she toughens up, despite her lax attitude. She also has a pet crocodile named Lucilla who's as lazy and tetchy as she is.

Ember Mclain from Danny Phantom. She's one of the recurring ghost villains in the show and first appeared in the episode "Fanning the Flames". She's kinda more of a punk from the 70's (implying she died that time). Anyway, Ember is a hard-rocking ghost girl who feeds on her fan's worship of her. Like punk rock music, she's the ghostly embodiment of teenage rebellion. Ironically, Sam doesn't listen to her songs. It's a good thing anyway because Ember's songs can control people's minds and emotions, her main weapon is of course her guitar, and her huge ponytail are actually blue flames.

Miss Doombringer from The Fairly Odd Parents. She only appeared in the episode "No Substitute for Crazy" but she vows to come back, maybe on another season. At first, she's Miss Sunshine, a lovable substitute teacher, whom Timmy wishes to be their permanent teacher. Since this happened, Miss Doombringer is sure that one of the kids has fairy godparents. For you see, she's a fairy hunter, like Mr. Crocker, but with more weapons, technology and crazy, but she still failed in the end. For a second, her book shows that her first name is Mary Alice, and on her car plate, it says Wingpuller.

Circe from Generator Rex. Introduced in the episode "Beyond the Sea" during Rex's trip to Cabo Luna, Circe is a female Evo whose powers only manifest when active like Rex's. When activated, her mouth prolapses into a monster-like tube which she can use to project destructive sonic pulses, and to also attract some other Evos to her. She has joined up with "The Pack" because she feels like too much of an outsider anywhere else and she considers its freaky members as her family. She became Rex 's love interest and he constantly tries to get her to switch sides, but Circe is too emo to do so.

Wanda Maximoff from X-Men: Evolution. She's more known as the Scarlet Witch. She's a mutant who has the ability to manipulate probabilities via hex spheres or bolts. She's a daughter of Magneto and sister to Quicksilver. Though she became one of the Avengers, she's a villain in X-Men. She was locked away in an asylum at a young age by Magneto. Because of this horrible memory, she grew up into an angsty, troubled, unstable goth girl, like Rogue (even looked like Rogue once). With the help of Mystique, she was able to breakout in order to get revenge on her father and joined the Brotherhood in an attempt to take down the X-Men. But Wanda had mixed angry feelings towards Quicksilver, her brother. Later in the series, Magneto changed her traumatic childhood memories.

Marie from Ed, Edd n Eddy. Marie is the middle of the Kankers Sisters. They live in a trailer park but they're the feared bullies in the cul-de-sac. They're extremely in love with the Eds but in a sadistic sort of way. As for Marie, she's paired with know-it-all and mild-mannered Edd. Like him, she's the most rational in her group, but she's the most aggressive. She's a slugger-thug, and rather tomboyish. She's really strong, sneaky and sly. Though she's not the leader, she can be independent and rebellious, and would side with the youngest sister, May, against Lee. According to Big Jim Miller (the head storyboard artist) Marie is the cutest girl in the show. I also agree. :D

Jinx in Teen Titans Go! She was re-imagined from the comics, bearing few similarities with her comic counterpart. like her looks The animated Jinx's powers portray a manipulation of probability, more specifically, the ability to "bring bad luck" to her enemies. Despite the "bad luck" theme to her powers, they still depend on solid ground and structures, just like in the comics, as she primarily causes structures to crumble as a means of attack. She is also very agile, capable of great feats of acrobatics. Her personality is a good example of the perky goth.

Queen of the Black Puddle from Courage the Cowardly Dog. My most beloved cartoon because it sparked my creative writing skills as a tween. And it's the first black comedy animated series in Cartoon Network. The Queen resembles the evil queens in Disney, meaning, she's Gothic not a goth. But I just want to share because of all the scary villains in the show, I think she's the only one who's female. She's first seen in the episode of the same name and came back in "Balls of Revenge". She appears in any form of water and seduces men into her underwater lair just to eat them up, like the mythological siren (whose lair is also full of bones).

Irmoplotz from Dave the Barbarian. She's the evil sorceress princess of Hyrogoth. Even her kingdom has goth in it. She became the love interest of Dave. They're opposites when it comes to brains but they both share the same odd hobbies and interest, like the bad poetry of Ped Xing. Irmoplotz's mother is the evil queen Zonthara who trains her to be evil, too, unlike her father who is good. Dave broke up with her because she's evil. She vowed revenge but still had feelings for him.

Shego from Kim Possible. She's the sidekick of the mad scientist Dr. Drakken, but became Kim Possible's greatest opponent. Unlike the other villains in the show, Shego isn't a megalomania but she's easily irritated or angered. Her power is in her hands which generate green flame-like bolts of energy. Actually, she was a superhero alongside her brothers because they were struck by a rainbow comet that gave them powers. It sounded cute but Shego turned evil for reasons not confirmed in the show. For me, she's kinda goth because of her appearance and her phlegmatic personality.

Olga Astronomonov from Dexter's Laboratory. Preferred to be called Lalavava, this cute ballerina only appeared in the episode "Dee Dee's Rival". Her style of dancing isn't cute like Dee Dee's but forceful and impressive. She's the younger sister of Mandark, the evil boy genius, but actually he's scared of her. In the episode, Lalavava and Dee Dee had a ballet showdown using robots invented by their brothers, but in the end, they wrecked the whole stage and agreed that brothers are stupid. Thus, they became friends, but Lalavava never recurred in another episode.

Alexandra Cabot from Josie and the Pussycats. Though their comics started during the 60's, she's pretty goth, even with that get up. She has this cat, Sebastian, who's actually the reincarnation of a witch ancestor. Whenever Alexandra holds him, she can cast magic spells. But her power was forgotten after the 80's, the age of goths. She's the antagonist because she was kicked out of the trio for being too ambitious with her talents. And so, she became their manager who's constantly plotting to destroy them.

Lacey Shadows from The Modifyers. She only appeared in the pilot because the cartoon had never been green-lighted by Nickelodeon. It's too bad because the setting is Steampunk. It's a very rare yet amazing theme. And the art in the show is just as gothic and beautiful. Lacey works for the creepy Baron Vain (lives under a cemetery) in stealing precious artifacts and she's his favorite. Her teammate is a no good rat named Runt. But actually, goth Lacey Shadows is preppy Agent Xero (reminds me of Ami from Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi). She's a master of disguise and together with her modular partner Molly, a part of a secret mystery cracking team known as The Modifyers. She only disguised herself as Lacey Shadows to foil the evil plans of Baron Vain.

Rosemary from Kyle + Rosemary. It's about teenage romance that started in the online game Quest World. Kyle is a geek and played a knight who fell in love with a dark sorceress named Lunarella. She's actually Rosemary, a member of the goth group. Though she has friends, Rosemary still feels alone and different. But when she's in Quest World, she's free and can be her real self. Since the geeks and goths hate each other, Kyle and Rosemary only meet in Quest World. It was Rosemary who first found Kyle's real geek identity. But even so, she still likes him and soon told him the truth. And at prom night, Kyle dressed up as a goth while Rosemary dressed like a normal girl (she's a brunette actually). This shocked their friends, but even so, the two walked under the stars.

Tess from Girls on the Go. This is also a cartoon about teenage love. But the protagonist is Kat while Tess is her goth best friend who taught her rules how to date a guy. Kat found a love note signed by Spencer who, according to Tess, is the classiest and handsomest guy in school. But he turned out to be this pudgy, gross guy. In the end, it was Tess who became his girlfriend and Kat found the real handsome Spencer. What's cool about Tess is she sleeps upside down on a tree with her pet bat. She also created a love potion made from toenails. And the creator, Aliki Theofilopoulos, voiced Crimson, the other goth girl in "Kyle + Rosemary".

Gloom from Sparkles and Gloom. Set in a fairytale world where goody cutesy things live together with the dark forces of evil. Sparkles and Gloom are the daughters of Prince Charming and the Evil Witch. They both attend Geevil School where sparkly pink, and grim gloomy creatures are encouraged to be friends. But chaos usually happens especially between Sparkles and Gloom. In the episode, they quarreled so badly that their powers were switched. Because of this, Gloom was forced to join the puffy ballet group for the talent show. While Sparkles had gone goth and joined Gloom's boney rock band.

Anemia from Anemia and Iodine. The show is from KaBlam! I put her here coz KaBlam! is an old Nickelodeon show that features one-time shorts, too. Anemia is a goth girl cat who loves the mystical and supernatural. Her room is full of books and potions, and a skull named Muriel. Anemia's best friend is a skater girl named Iodine. In the episode, they went to Malaria Manor to conduct a seance and free the cat ghost that haunts it.

Selina Kyle (Catwoman) from Gotham High. We all love Batman for the dark super villainesses like the perky freak Harley Quinn, the seductive Poison Ivy and of course, the catastrophic Catwoman. But I do believe their alter egos are not goths, even if they live in a city with a "goth" in its name.

But there is a show (well, almost a show) where they can be. Gotham High is created by Jeffrey Thomas and Celeste Green. It's set in an alternative world where Bruce Wayne is a teenager and also are his classic villains. They still keep their powers and personalities, and they each represent different high school stereotypes. As for Catwoman, she's the stereotypical femme fatale goth girl who tempts Bruce for some trouble. Pamela Isley (Poison Ivy) looks like the sexy and shallow popular girl in a goth get-up. While Harley Quinn is a preppy goth cheerleader. Yeay! Too bad, the project was never continued. Only concept arts are what's left of this wonderful idea. I've been listing goth girls of TV cartoon shows. But let's go to other

media and know the most popular goth girls there, from dolls to comics.

Emily the Strange (apparel). She must be the most popular goth girl icon I know. She came to life in the early 1990's and quickly became a beloved counterculture icon all around the world. In her earliest years, she was a quiet but sharp-witted stranger, slinging philosophy and cultural observations in a series of hand-screened t-shirts and stickers. As her presence grew and became a standard in the cultural underground, Emily's own story began to emerge in a series of gift books, then comic-books and graphic novels, and now a novel series for young adults. Emily's not your average thirteen year-old-girl. Pink is her worst nightmare...she wears the same black dress every day. She loves math and science. Her best friends are her four black cats: Mystery, Sabbath, Miles and Neechee! She's into rock and punk. Emily is so anticool she's cool... a subculture of one, and a follower of no one but herself.

Death from The Sandman (graphic novel). Death is the second eldest of "The Endless", a family who embodies the powerful aspects of the universe. There's Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Despair, Desire and Delirium. In the stories, Death is both the end of life and a psychopomp. She also visits people when they are born. But one day every century, Death lives (and dies) as a mortal, in order to understand the value of the life she takes. Being Death, she's possibly to be the most powerful of the Endless; bound by no rules; feared by the Furies; and may survive the end of the universe. Though most personifications of death is the Grim Reaper or some shady stranger, here Death is a goth girl, who is, ironically, pleasant, down-to-earth, perky and kind-hearted. Her look was inspired by co-creator Dringenberg's goth friend, Cinnamon.

Monster High (dolls). This is the most popular Mattel fashion dolls liked by goths. Who wouldn't like monster-inspired dolls with goth chic fashion? Though they have that Bratzy look and preppy attitude, their character designs and the plot setting are indeed gruesomely awesome. The main characters are Frankie Stein (the "fragile" new girl/monster), Draculaura (a hemophobic perky vampire), and Clawdeen Wolf (the werewolf fashion diva). There's also Lagoona Blue (sporty daughter of the Gill-Man) and Ghoulia Yelps (the nerdy zombie girl). Their main mean girl is none other than the mummified Egyptian princess, Cleo De Nile. Nemi Montaya from Nemi (funnies). It's the most popular Norwegian comic strip printed daily in the Metro newspaper. Nemi is into the heavy metal and goth culture. She has many friends from the same subcultre, but she still feels lonely at times. She's a really tough, hardcore and cynical goth girl who isn't afraid to speak her mind and more often than not in confrontational ways. The purpose of comic strips is to show satire, and Nemi is there to make fun of today's mainstreams, pop music, blonde bimbos, reality shows, George Bush, animal violence (esp. whale hunting), etc. Though she's this grim and gritty, she fears growing up (she's already 25) and has child-like characteristics. She's friendly to children but kinda scares them with her dark humour. And she has a passion for chocolate!

Devi D. from Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (comics). Devi first appeared in the Meanwhile comic, Somewhere Else, where she was dating a guy with irritable bowel syndrome. She then appeared in the main plot as Johnny's love interest. They first met in a bookstore where she works until Devi asked him out. Nny liked her so much to the extent of murdering her so he can "immortalize" their sweet moment. But Devi is the only character who was able to beat him up and ran away. From that horrible experience, Devi became a paranoid and locked herself up in her apartment where she spent most of her time painting. Devi then got her own spin-off entitled I Feel Sick as continuation where she battles the same psychotic forces in her life, in the form of a painting of a doll. In the story, she became a graphic designer for the evil Nerve Publishing while her insane best friend, Tenna, tries to persuade her to go out more. It was revealed that Devi is an introverted goth and had a lot of bad dates.

Misa Amane from Death Note (manga/anime). Okay, we're going to anime. Misa is a true goth. Not gothic, not lolita, not emo, not cosplayer; She's not the silent moody girl, not the dark good girl, not creepy little girl, not magical demon girl. She's goth. In the story, Misa is a popular Japanese model and actress. She is immature, hyperactive and happy-go-lucky. A shinigami named Gelus fell in love with her and died as consequence. Then she had two shinigamis, Rem and Ryuk. Misa is completely devoted to Light although the feeling is hardly mutual, since Light merely views her as a rather annoying asset and uses her. He also sees her as a bad person who killed innocent people.Her look was inspired by gothic lolita, but the creators wanted more goth and rock in her to convey the gothic and dark imagery of the Shinigami.

Germaine from Neurotically Yours (webtoon). Germaine is the owner of Foamy, a neurotic talking squirrel. She's in her twenties and tries to be a professional poet, but her poetry is never appreciated. She spends her time on her computer, reading mystic books, meditate with witchcraft, hang out in coffee shops and of course, with her annoying pet Foamy. She got issues about her weight, which as episodes progress, she gains more and more. She's a feminist and complains about pervy guys and slutty girls. Ironically and disappointingly, she herself became one. She's originally the main character but Foamy the squirrel became more popular because of his angry rants against society. These miss bullies are the baddest it-girls in the series
though they appeared only in one episode.

The Bettys in Ready for the Bettys (Phineas and Ferb). They are a popular rock band, parodying "The Veronicas" and "Spice Girls". They consist of Tink (bass guitar), Missy (drums) and Crash (lead singer and guitar). Candace and Stacey won their radio contest to spend one day with them. It turned out the Bettys were lazy slobs who didn't care about their fans. They turned the obsessed Candace and Stacey into their maids. But Candace later talked to them about their attitude. The Bettys apologized and let the girls sing with them. The song Ready for the Bettys became the top 10 favorite song of the show. The episode really shows an exaggeration of being a music band fan.

The Bad Girls' Bathroom from Separate Vocations (The Simpsons). The pink-haired one sorta has a simple Gothic Lolita fashion. She, together with the unnamed Grunge girl, hanged out in the girls "get the hell out" bathroom of Springfield Elementary School. Judging by their height, they're maybe sixth graders. Lisa Simpson joined them because she found her life has no meaning after a test result showed that she's going to be a homemaker. And all three of them pulled up the cruelest prank on Principal Skinner. The bad girls didn't actually influenced Lisa. They just admired how bad she is. I found out the goth girl's name when Bart was monitoring the hall, "Hey, Dawn who loves you, babe?" As for the grunge girl, she revealed that she was a goody-two shoes back in second grade.

The Black Widow Spiders in Dragonflies (Mighty B!) The show is about girl scout troops but it's not boring at all. This episode is the most awesome because the Honeybees had a competition with the punk Dragonflies troop. They encountered the goth Black Widow Spiders troop when they went to the wrong pier. These little goth girl scouts hang out in a rusted warehouse of Pier13. Like the real spiders, they are sensitive to light, very territorial and deadly.

Moxie and the Goth Club in Girls Behaving Oddly (The Emperor's New School). When Malina had an A-, she suffered from identity crisis, tried many clubs (like what Lisa Simpson did) and joined the bad girls, led by Moxie. In this episode, Malina had gone goth, and Kuzco and Kronk drank a potion to turn into girls and join them. Moxie really influenced Malina but when she dared "Kuzcolina' and "Kronkcal" her to steal from a teacher, "Mali" stopped them and realized being a bad girl isn't what she is. Moxie let her go and revealed that she's also an A+ student secretly.

The Bad Girls in Wrong and Dance (El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera). They are Patches, Tattoo and Chainsaw. In this episode, the school dance is coming, and Manny and Frida tried to find dates for it. Manny wanted someone bad, then the three bad girls appeared all of a sudden. With instructions from Grandpapi's "Secret Love Files", Manny tried to woo the three, but he ended up getting badly hurt by them. At last, he and Frida went to the dance together as friends. As for the Bad Girls, they fell in love with Frida's dorky admirer, Sergio (who also dressed up as a rockstar in the middle of the same episode), as he evilly planned revenge at Manny.

Poptropica is a popular online game where your character explores different islands and goes on unique quests. Here's my character in a gothic cheerleader outfit, talking to the goth girls (non-playing characters) of Poptropica. Some are enemies like Sickly Skull, and Copy Cat who's wanted for illegal copying of music and has the power to make copies of herself. As for the goth girl in Astro Knights Island, she's of great help and importance in the quest. The others are just extras who talk to you.
